Chen Zhibao - a turbine worker

Chen Zhibao is now the leader of the first milling and boring team in the gas turbine workshop, and the main operator of Yingsa 8-inch NC horizontal boring machine. The machine he operates assumes the mission of processing 6B, 9E, 6F gas turbines, 150MW+ turbines and the parts of other flagship machines and new products all the year round. In the past year, he firmly upheld the principle of “quality first”, fully recognized the fact that quality is the life of an enterprise, and always put quality at the top priority. He successively and successfully completed the experimental production of the first 6F.01 gas turbine casing, inlet casing, 6F.03 gas turbine casing, gas exhausting casing and other new products, thus earning time and accumulating precious processing experience for the first piece qualification (FPQ) of 6F series gas turbines this year.

In the course of processing the plane of the bull display rack installed on the first F series 6F.03 gas turbine gas exhausting casing, since the distance between the plane and the ex-circle of the casing is above 900mm and the space is narrow, it is impossible to process it with existing accessories and tools. For this reason, he proposed a suggestion to Mr. Fu Gang who was responsible for this process, that it might possible to add an auxiliary datum plane and process is with a universal milling head after the casing is dismantled. Although it might be intractable to mill the datum plane and set tools, the process went much smoother and the dimension and accuracy could easily meet the design requirements. Besides, he also dug into the potential of machines by activating the processing of the plane formed by two rotating shafts that have never been used before, thus overcoming the processing difficulty caused by multiple special rake angles in the 6F gas turbine unit. The turbine casing in 6F.01 gas turbine is the most difficult casing to process that Chen Zhibao has met in the past 30 years. Besides its low machinability and unique shape, the casing has many three-dimensional rake angles with tapered planes running through it. Since it was the first unit and exiting tools could not fulfill the processing, he used whatever he had in hand to improve the tool or process those challenging external parts from the inside after the casing was dismantled. During those missions, he shouldered the responsibility as a communist, went into practical actions in an innovative way, and went to great length in completing those missions.

As the team leader, Chen Zhibao also led the whole team to vie for the honor of “team of five types” (skill type, performance type, management type, innovation type, harmony type), and organized an array of activities such as technical exchanges, trainings, innovative cost reduction and brainstorming. In the NC milling and boring theory and operation contest organized by the group company, he organized his members to learn the theories and take simulated exams before the contest while analyzing and expanding on the drawing of practical operation. He also put forward his own processing idea and clamping method, which simplified complicated questions. Finally his team members secured the top two in many events, which not only won honor for the workshop, but also accumulated experience for members and trained a handful of young employees. The “first milling and boring team” under his leadership has won the honor of “advanced team” of the group company for more than ten years.

Being an exemplary role as a communist at work, Chen Zhibao is always trusted to complete missions with guaranteed quality and quantity for time-sensitive and difficult parts. He has been rated as the “silver employee” by the group company for many years. At present, the production of 6F series gas turbine is in full swing. He said, as the chief technician, he would devote himself to the production of new products and made contributions to reaching the designed production capacity of 6F gas turbines.
